The Cryogenic Engineering Centre (CEC) at IIT Kharagpur partners with industry to deliver advanced solutions in cryogenic engineering, superconductivity, LNG systems, and hydrogen technologies. With decades of expertise and specialized infrastructure, CEC supports research translation, product validation, and technology commercialization for strategic and emerging sectors.

Industry Engagement Areas

Sponsored Research & Development: Custom cryogenic system design, LNG and hydrogen storage technologies, cryocooler and helium system optimization, superconducting systems, and low-temperature materials. Projects are executed under structured agreements with defined deliverables and IP frameworks. Testing & Validation Services:Cryogenic component testing, material characterization at low temperatures, superconducting magnet evaluation, thermal insulation and performance analysis. Facilities support product validation and engineering refinement.

Technology Development & Transfer: Prototype development and scale-up, joint IP generation, patent licensing and commercialization, support for national clean energy and advanced technology missions.

 

Consultancy:Cryogenic plant troubleshooting, LNG and hydrogen infrastructure advisory, process optimization, and system safety assessment.

Infrastructure & Expertise:CEC houses integrated facilities including helium liquefaction systems, cryogenic test rigs, superconducting laboratories, and advanced low-temperature measurement systems—enabling research-to-prototype development within a single ecosystem.
